Workshop on ambiguities in the application of the Law on Foreigners in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The workshop titled "Implementation of the Law on Foreigners – Ambiguities in Application" will be held in Jahorina from October 14 to 17, 2024, as part of the project "Strengthening Migration Management, Asylum, and Return Processes in the Western Balkans," funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the Federal Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Austria. The workshop is organized by the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hilfswerk International, aiming to exchange practices among representatives of organizational units of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other institutions responsible for the implementation of the Law on Foreigners in the migration management process.
Considering that irregular migration poses numerous security challenges, the workshop places special emphasis on the provisions of the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Foreigners, as well as specific practical cases that illustrate how many uncertainties in the interpretation of the law become significant obstacles to effective migration management and the protection of the fundamental human rights of individuals in transit, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable among them, women and unaccompanied children. Given that effective migration management in the Western Balkans requires developed regional and international cooperation, through the organization of such workshops, Hilfswerk International contributes to the development of this cooperation and facilitates future operational collaboration among workshop participants by establishing direct contacts.
