STEPS OF CHANGE - On the paths that shape safety
Project details
The „STEPS OF CHANGE – On the paths that shape safety“ campaign highlights the importance of a controlled, safe, and human-rights-oriented approach to managing migration, asylum, and return processes in the Western Balkans.
The campaign aims to present realistic, legal, and safe aspects of migration that are the result of many years of work and cooperation among regional institutions responsible for migration and asylum in the Western Balkans, as well as organizations and experts working in this field, with the goal of improving regional coordination and cooperation. By emphasizing positive examples of good practice and the willingness of institutions to work on enhancing the protection of human rights in migration, the campaign shares real stories of people on the move. Through these stories, it fosters greater understanding and empathy, while reducing prejudice and generalization.
The campaign is implemented within the project “Strengthening Migration Management, Asylum and Return Processes in the Western Balkans” which is carried out by Hilfswerk International in partnership with the Joint Coordination Platform (JCP).
The project responds to the specific need to strengthen the capacities of structures responsible for reception and protection in Western Balkan countries, in order to ensure that migration, asylum, and return processes are managed responsibly and consistently, with full respect for human dignity, fundamental rights, and the EU acquis. The project also addresses the need to provide practical assistance to Western Balkan authorities responsible for return processes and the management of migration and asylum, by building their capacities to directly assume responsibility for the development and implementation of return and asylum programs, and by encouraging regional cooperation and communication among relevant stakeholders.
The project is funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the Federal Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Austria.
