Regional workshop on exchange of best practices and experiences in preventing, detecting, and prosecuting the crime of migrant smuggling and trafficking
The "Regional workshop on exchange of best practices and experiences in preventing, detecting, and prosecuting the crime of migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings in mass and mixed migration flows in the Western Balkans“, brought together representatives - prosecutors, investigators, and representatives of the security structures of the Western Balkans, who, in the period from 7 to 10 March 2022, in Budva (Montenegro) shared the best practices in preventing, detecting and prosecuting criminal actors in the field of migration.
This very important topic included the presentation of the basic characteristics of mixed migration flows and related criminal activities in the Western Balkans, international judicial and police cooperation in preventing, detecting and prosecuting smuggling crimes, investigations in these activities and digital evidence and case studies in migrant crime.
A very important segment concerned the identification of shortcomings in the capacities of the prosecutor's office and police agencies and effective international police and judicial cooperation. Representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Serbia presented conclusions and recommendations, which further enhanced exchange and cooperation in the field of migration within the Western Balkans.
The project "Reducing irregular migration to the EU by strengthening the capacity of migration-related structures in the Western Balkans" is co-financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the Federal Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Austria and implemented by Hilfswerk International in cooperation with the Association for Help and Development "HAJDE”.
